Free Gift
The Bible says in Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the
gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
The greatest offer ever made is the free gift of God, which is eternal
life. The fact that it is a gift signifies that no type of payment is
required. When Jesus Christ gave his life on Calvary's cross, he
paid the full price for the salvation of every lost sinner. God is
not asking you to keep the commmandments, get baptized, go to church, and clean
your life up so that you can be saved and have eternal life. If God were
to make you do those things, then eternal life would be a payment that you
earned! Paul said in Romans 4:4-5, "Now to him that worketh is the
reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh
not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted
for righteousness."
If you're in need of eternal life, the best news you'll ever hear is that
it's a FREE GIFT! You don't have to do anything except receive what the
Son of God has done for you already. On the cross the Lord cried,
"It is finished" (John
19:30). Salvation's work was finished on
the cross, now we simply have to trust what Jesus did as the payment for our
sins.
With such a wonderful offer, you might be wondering how it is that so many
people ignore and reject it. Please understand, God will not force anyone
to take this gift. A sinner must willingly receive it. This means
that a sinner must first realize his or her true condition. That
is he or she is lost in sin. As the apostle Paul said in
Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of
God." Because of his sinful condition, Paul tells us that an
unsaved man is "...dead in trespasses and sins." (Ephesians
2:1) A lost sinner might be alive in the flesh, but he is dead in
his spirit. That's why Jesus said, "Ye must be born
again." And again he said, "Except a man be born again,
he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3,7)
Friend, Jesus came that we might have life and that we might have it
more abundantly (John 10:10). If you've never
received the Lord Jesus Christ to be your personal Saviour, then you're lost,
spiritually dead, and one day you will die in your sins (John
8:24). If you do not repent and call upon the name of the Lord to
save you, then you will spend an eternity in the lake of fire
(Revelation 20:14,15; 21:8). Today if you can hear the
Lord speaking to your heart, harden not your heart! The Bible says,
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
(Romans 10:13)
So many people fail to receive this free gift of eternal life because they
never realize their great need for a Saviour. If today you've realized
your need and you want to accept the Lord Jesus Christ to be your personal
Saviour, then all you must do is pray sincerely from your heart and ask
him to give you this free gift. Admit to him that you're on your way to
hell, but that you'd like to change that. Admit to him that you're not
able to save yourself no matter how hard you try. Tell him that you're
going to put all of your faith in Him and Him alone for salvation.
